Decorative strings can be found in almost every home. Why are they so popular? The main reason is the huge number of their uses - from decoration to the possibility of providing children with creative fun. Moreover, a large selection of types and colors allows you to personalize the decorations, which gives them great sentimental value. What can you make with decorative strings?

String crafts

First, it is worth checking what types of decorative string are available on the market. This is important because each string decoration has its own rules and, for example, a thin string will not be suitable for large macrame. Additionally, you must remember that the choice also depends on what you want to do. For example, for jewelry, the best choice will be a cotton string with a thickness of 1.5–2 mm. For example, a triple-twisted variant will be good for a macrame swing. The most popular decorative strings include:

  • individually screwed – perfect, among others for macrame and dream catchers,
  • curly 3PLY – resistant to very heavy loads, making them perfect for macrame hammocks and swings,
  • braided – good for string decorations such as handbags, curtains or flower stands.

In addition to the above, you can also distinguish:

  • cotton,
  • jute,
  • linen,
  • satin,
  • nylon,
  • polyester,
  • plastic,
  • waxed cotton strings,
  • leather.
  • strings with beads,
  • elastic strings,
  • made of organic cotton.

String products, i.e. beauty and originality

String products, such as a candle holder made of a jar and string, are not only beautiful, but also original. Additionally, they provide many opportunities to prepare Christmas decorations, gift packaging, fashion accessories and much more. They are also a great way to spend time with your child in creative play or an interesting way to spend time with friends fascinated by handicrafts.

String handicrafts are most often macrame, wall or window decorations, jewelry, Christmas tree decorations, decorative jars, coasters for cups or plates, supports for shrink plants, bookmarks, rugs, string Easter eggs and many others. Such decorations will help create a beautiful, atmospheric interior in a boho or rustic style and will provide a lot of original home decorations.

DIY from decorative string: some ideas

Rope decorations can be made in many ways. The technique often depends on the chosen decoration. Starting with the simplest ones, such as a tassel, you can make string decorations that perfectly match the interior design and the author's taste.

How to make decorations from linen string? First, you need to prepare about 1 m of linen string. Later, depending on what kind of decoration you want to make, you should place, for example, clasps for a necklace or bracelet. Then a loop is made from a piece of string from the front. Then two larger loops are made and a third one the size of the first one. They all must fit tightly together.

Christmas decorations made of string

Christmas decorations made of string include, for example, a macrame Christmas tree or bauble, or a candle holder made of a jar and string. When preparing both of these decorations, it is worth choosing colorful strings that will add originality to the decorations. Each of them made at home will be a unique addition to a gift or a Christmas tree decoration. When making baubles, in addition to string, you can also use paper wicker or beads - there are many ideas.

Easter decorations made of string

When preparing Easter decorations from string, it is a good idea to choose mainly spring colors, e.g. shades of green and yellow. Such colorful eggs will look great on the Christmas table and in a basket. You can make a basket out of string, a macrame with a bunny or a chick, or a larger basket made of wood or metal.

Other string decorations

Other decorations that can be made from string while playing with your child and beyond include:

  • dream catchers,
  • some toys, e.g. mascots,
  • pet toys,
  • pillowcases,
  • gift packaging,
  • various gadgets, including book covers,
  • vases,
  • jewelry boxes and the jewelry itself,
  • handbags and scarves,
  • flower beds,
  • seasonal decorations,
  • storage baskets.

Each of the above-mentioned decorations can be made by yourself, but remember to choose the right string, because cotton string will be better for one thing and linen string for another. Making a string decoration will also be a great idea, e.g. for art workshops for both children and adults. Weaving macrame or making dream catchers is also an excellent choice for an interesting form of occupational or art therapy.
