Twine for agricultural crops - what is it used for?

Twine is useful in growing crops for:

  • tying up plants, especially those with slender delicate stems;
  • so-called climbing climbing plants such as tomatoes or vines;

There are quite a lot of uses for strings for agricultural crops. What types of strings work best?

Twine for agricultural crops - types

The string should have specific properties to make it work as a string for tying plants or a string for a greenhouse. First of all, it should be resistant to tearing, durable and not susceptible to adverse weather conditions. Biodegradability is also an important feature for some crop owners.

Jute twine is often used as a string for tying plants. It is durable, resistant to sunlight, tearing, and 100% biodegradable. Jute is a plant grown without the use of pesticides, making it a material that is completely safe for the environment and animals that may be on the farm. In addition, jute has antibacterial properties, thanks to which it is not a breeding ground for mold and fungus.

Sisal twine is successfully used in gardening in the form of a rope in the greenhouse or as a string for tying plants. Sisal cords are made of sisal agave fibers and are completely biodegradable. They are characterized by high strength, resistance to tearing (sisal yarn is used to produce, among others, cat scratchers), flexibility and resistance to adverse weather conditions, such as high temperature or humidity.

Polypropylene twine is also used for cultivation. Made of synthetic fibers, it is resistant to tearing - it can hold even very heavy loads. Its additional advantage is that it does not absorb water.

Strings made of durable nylon and glass fiber are also used for cultivation. It should be remembered that the string should be selected both for the type of plant and its needs, as well as for the conditions in which it is grown - only taking these factors into account guarantees good cultivation results. Jute twine - for which crops

Twine for agricultural crops made of jute yarn is often used as a support for root crops, such as carrot, celery or beetroot. This type of yarn is also used when tying and supporting vines. The thickness of the jute twine makes it also suitable for growing melons, green beans and cucumbers. It is also often used to bind tobacco leaves during the drying process.

Polypropylene twine - what types of crops is it suitable for?

Polypropylene twine made of synthetic fibers, subjected to UV treatment, will be perfect as a string for greenhouses. It is flexible, resistant to tearing and specific weather conditions in the greenhouse. It allows the plants to spread freely and keep them at the right height. It is soft, thanks to which it does not cause abrasions to the employees' hands. It will work well as a string for tomatoes, as well as when growing such plants as peppers, eggplant, zucchini, beans or peas. Cultivation of cucumbers on strings can also be practiced using polypropylene string. It can also be used to support the branches of fruit trees, which bend dangerously under the weight of the crops.
